Canis Lupus Familiaris, or better known as the dog. The Canis Lupus Familiaris is a descendent of the wolf, or Canis Lupus. The anatomy of a dog is pretty cool. Firstly, the brain, the brain of a dog is small, but smart.Have you ever noticed that your dog responds to its name, or treats? Well, that's not just a coincidence. Studies show that the dog can understand more than 250 words! Dogs have around 320 bones, and approximately 700 muscles.
Have you ever noticed how your dog runs? It's pretty weird right? But the way they run is like a horse, which can be pretty fast, so it makes sense why they are so fast. But to answer the question, the way a dog runs is they gallop, (Like a horse) which means that they cycle their legs in a pattern for maximum efficiency.

Yes, dogs are actually pretty smart. In fact, dogs passed the point test, which is a test where you put treats under 2 seperate cups, and you point to one of them, and they actually went to it. While our closest relative, the chimpanzee which share 98-99% of our DNA, did not pass the test.
